Having just encouraged you to take action, any action, as a critical precondition to health and wellness, this week’s Wellness Pathway contains a very practical application: plan your shopping. A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed what will probably come as no surprise: Americans are eating bigger portions both when they go out and when they stay home. We put more food on the plate and we snack more, especially on salty snacks, than ever before. No wonder almost half the population of America is overweight. We eat too much everywhere we go.
One simple solution to the problem of eating too much at home is not bringing too many unhealthy foods to the house in the first place. The key to the whole process is to plan your shopping. To go in the grocery store without a shopping list is to court disaster. To get on top of the problem, some LifeTrek clients have gotten rid of all their food and started over with a clean slate and a mind to plan their shopping. With or without a coach, this is one problem worth taking action on.
