LifeTrek Wellness Pathways started more than a year ago with two tips on the importance of drinking water. One tip talked about the quantity and quality of water in order to stay hydrated and experience health benefits. The other talked about ice water as an aide to losing weight. New research from doctors at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California brings me back to where I began: if you want better health, drink lots of clean water per day. And don’t think that other beverages work as well. They don’t.
The Loma Linda study found that people who drank five or more glasses of water daily cut in half their risk of suffering a fatal heart attack. People who drank five or more glasses a day of any beverage other than water showed an increased risk for heart disease. Researchers hypothesize that caloric beverages draw water from the bloodstream to the stomach for digestion, temporarily thickening the blood, while water, which is absorbed immediately into the bloodstream, temporarily thins the blood. Other studies show that drinking lots of clean water per day also helps with blood pressure, cancer, asthma, and the aging process. My recommendation remains unchanged: for optimum health, drink one gallon of filtered water per day.
May you be filled with goodness, peace, and joy.
