Wellness Pathway #155: Cultivate Positive Relationships

Studies show that positive social interaction lowers the level of stress hormones in the blood, lowers blood pressure, helps preserve cognitive function, prevents depression, and influences the survival rate among patients with very serious diseases. Not surprisingly, negative social interaction has the opposite impact.

As coaches, we often work with people on their standards and boundaries. Standards are what you hold yourself to on principle. Boundaries are what you hold others to on principle. When your boundaries are violated, it disrupts your mental and emotional well-being. Studies show it also disrupts your physical health. So go out of your way to cultivate positive social relationships. Fix or eliminate the negative ones. You’ll know its working when you start complaining less and feeling more grateful.
