Wellness Pathway #151: Grill Tofu

If you’ve been reading our Wellness Pathways for very long, then you know all about the health benefits of eating soy protein. Simply put, it lowers the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, either many people don’t know how to eat more soy protein or, if they know, they think it tastes disgusting. On our Trek for Life Weekend, people were certainly singing a different tune after eating some great-tasting, grilled, marinated tofu. Here’s the recipe for those who want to give it a try.

Mix the following ingredients together in a bowl to make the marinade: 2 Tbs. Balsamic Vinegar, 2 Tbs. Reduced Sodium Tamari Soy Sauce, 4 cloves garlic, crushed, 4 Tbs. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2 Tbs. Toasted Sesame Seed Oil, and freshly ground black pepper. Slice a standard 14.5-ounce package of organic extra firm tofu into three half-inch thick steaks. Place in baking dish and cover with marinade for at least ten minutes. Preheat grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius). Place steaks on grill. Turn every five minutes, basting as you go, until grill marks appear on the tofu. Keep the grill temperature to around 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius) by opening and closing the lid frequently. Once you taste this tofu, you’ll never want again for a great-tasting way to consume soy protein.
