The microwave is a modern miracle that most people in the developed world take advantage of on a regular basis. Who doesn’t appreciate the ability to heat and eat things in an instant? The problem is that microwave cooking may leech toxins into your food from plastic wrap, plastic bags, and plastic containers.
Dr. Edward Fujimoto, director of the Center for Health Promotion at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii has said that this particularly applies to foods that are high in fat or oil. The combination of fat, high heat, and plastics can release dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. It’s not clear whether the level of carcinogens released into food from plastic wrap, bags, and containers is high enough to be significant. At the very least, always be sure to use plastic that is labeled as “microwave safe.” Better yet, transfer your food, even if it’s pre-packaged, into glass or ceramic containers before microwaving and you’re good to go.
May you be filled with goodness, peace, and joy.
