Wellness Pathway #130: Protect Your Skin

Many readers of LifeTrek Provisions are heading into the summer months, with increased exposure to the sun. Although that may feel like a refreshing change of pace, and although the sun is important to the production of Vitamin D, the danger of skin cancer is very real and should not be taken lightly.

For starters, try to stay out of the sun between the hours of ten and two. That’s when the sun is most intense. Second, wear as much clothing as you can stand. Finally, use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and contains parsol. Reapply the sunscreen frequently, ideally every 20 minutes, as it does wear off. The spray-sport versions of sunscreen can ease the inconvenience and protect your skin for years to come. Note: it’s important to use sunscreen even under your clothing, since most clothing does not block out even a majority of the sun’s rays.
