Daily Habits Survey
In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey defines a habit as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. Knowledge is the what to do and the why. Skill is the how to do. Desire is the motivation, the want to do. Covey points out that to make something a habit in our lives, we need to have all three.
Make a list of the 10 daily habits that represent your idea of a successful, meaningful, and healthy life. This survey focuses on what you know to be true and right for you. It is not about your current patterns of behavior; it is rather about your vision of what your daily life will look like when everything is in place, just the way you want it. Together, through the coaching alliance, you will develop the desire and the skill to make what you know a habit, in Covey’s sense of the word. You will translate your head knowledge into heart and hand knowledge. You will learn to maintain healthy rhythms, patterns, and boundaries between work and home, self and others, flesh and spirit.
After you list your 10 daily habits, prioritize them in their order of importance. For your own health and well being, what is the most important habit of all? What comes next? Keep going until all your habits have been ranked.
