If you have been reading my essays here in LifeTrek Provisions, then you know I
am all about creating good and joyful energy in life. With a focus on what
is around you, what makes you happy, how you feel connected and fulfilled, and
what you want more of in your life, you are armed with some very powerful
knowledge about leading the life you were meant to lead.
The first step to facilitating your own personal change, or life enhancement, is
awareness. It is a basic step to impacting a change in what you're doing, what
you're thinking, who you're being, and what you're contributing to both self and
others. So, if you have identified an aspect of your life or self which you want
to grow and develop, start with an awareness of who you are and what's going
on in that part of you and/or you life.
Consider what aspect you desire to focus upon, and begin paying attention to
your thoughts about who you are today in that space, and who you want to become.
Sometimes, it may be hard to stick with the essence of that desire, because
there are many voices in your head, with varying opinions and judgments.
Any negative "noise" that may be keeping you stuck normally emanates from self
ego or from others' insecurities and views of the world. It is very important to
let all of this go. If you are not assured of truth in the statements, or if
they don't feel right to you, do not trust in them. In fact, do not give them
another second of your time. Move on. This alone will raise your energy
You can choose your thoughts. Over time, you can learn to tune in to what you're
thinking and replace any nonproductive thoughts with powerful truths that will
lead to positive focus on your goals and desires. Control of your thinking is
one of the key secrets to great living. In fact, it is probably the most
powerful tool you have in life.
So, what will you then choose to think, once you have cleared out the language
of struggle, doubt, and fear? I lean toward language of joy, possibility,
strengths, ease, and comfort. These are all thoughts that build my confidence,
raise my spirit, and create safe space for me to explore and try new ways. Think
about what you truly want. Tell yourself that it is possible. Listen for your
own intuition and let your wisdom to speak to you.
When you have uncluttered your mind, you are then able to hear your own voice.
You are ready to tune in to messages that are helpful and meaningful.
I believe that you will find all of this de-cluttering and rebuilding very
energizing. But, just to give you some additional jolts along your path, do
things for yourself that create good and positive energy flowing to you and from
If you love the fall like I do, taking time to appreciate and experience the
season creates all kinds of energy boosts. Last weekend, I wandered around a
local nursery, picking out some ornamental kale plants, as well as some purple
spotted pansies. I spent some time on the sunny patio potting plants, and set
them around the backyard, where summer plants had worn down.
This weekend, Mark and I decided to dress up the front of the house for October.
The weather was cool and pleasant last night, and a perfect time to get that
done. He hung the flashing eyes Halloween lights in our front hedge, as a little
boy in our neighborhood came over to see what was going on. Romeo, our cat,
walked up and down the basement stairs with me as I gathered a fall wreath to
hang on the front porch, and a black cat for the door. It's looking very festive
out there, and I smile at night when I pull into the drive and see those
Marlene's Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting •
in honor of autumn, pumpkins, and my good friend, Marlene
3 large eggs
• cup vegetable oil
1 • cups sugar
15 ounce can of pumpkin
• teaspoon of salt (or less)
2 teaspoons cinnamon (or more)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups flour
1 cup chopped nuts (optional, but I add even more)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients and pour into a greased
and floured bar pan (11" x 16" or so). Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the
batter springs back. Cool.
Combine the following frosting ingredients and spread on the bars. Using an
electric mixer on low speed is easiest.
1/2 cup butter (softened at room temp)
6 ounces cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar
Take a nice brisk walk around the neighborhood before or after
enjoying these bars, to make them a little healthier.
