I found myself weeping this morning -- and it was wonderful!
I received a voice mail from a former client who was calling share the good news
that she was officially leaving her employer to launch her own business. She
also wanted to thank me to for being a part of her continued journey toward the
creation of a life she loves.
Just after listening to the message, I turned on my CD player to find that it
was cued to one of my favorite songs, "It's All About Love." As the title
implies, the lyrics express "Our only hope for living here together in this
world, is love. It's all about love. Everything else comes down to this. Nothing
any higher on the list than love."
The synergy of these two messages were beautifully overwhelming to me, and I
cried. But, then, I created!
My client's expression of love and gratitude created my own desire to express
love and thanks to someone else. Suddenly, I was filled with the need to connect
with my own mentor and to share my gratitude for his influence in my life.
Another result of experiencing such kindness, and then giving it away, was that
I became unstuck. I had been pondering what to write about today for several
weeks and was feeling the pains of "writer's block." Filled with such warmth, I
found the creative ideas began to immediately flow. Kindness feeds the creative
spirit.
In Pay It Forward, a book turned screenplay, teacher Reuben St. Clair,
starts a movement with his extra-credit assignment: "Think of an idea to change
our world -- and put it into action!" Trevor, the 12-year-old hero of the story
thinks of quite an idea. He describes it to his mother and teacher this way:
"You see, I do something real good for three people. And then when they ask how
they can pay it back, I say they have to Pay It Forward. To three more people.
Each. So nine people get helped. Then those people have to do twenty-seven. Then
it sort of spreads out, see. To eighty-one. Then two hundred forty-three. Then
seven hundred twenty-nine. Then two thousand, one hundred eighty-seven. See how
big it gets?"
So, love someone today. Express gratitude for something today. Pay it forward
and see what you can create.
