Creativity Pathway #125:
Involve Your Passion

There was a time that I felt unconnected. I felt that my circle of influence was
limited to friends, family, and co-workers. I was terrified at the thought of
networking and selfishly "selling" myself in any way.
But the last few years have been a time marked by an awakening of my passions.
And, the passions have called me forth and required me to begin getting involved
in groups organized around them. For example, I joined my local downtown
business association and became a board member for a non-profit women's
organization.
I had not realized the impact of my membership in these organizations until one
Saturday when I attended our downtown Farmer's Market to purchase some fresh
vegetables. In the space of 30 minutes, I saw and conversed with sixteen people.
These were all people who I had become acquainted with, in the course of less
than a year, as a result of direct and indirect connections made in my committee
work.
I realized that my network had expanded exponentially. I have created a new
world for myself and, as a result, for my friends, family and co-workers.
Knowing more people, in a variety of fields and areas of expertise, allows me to
be a better resource for everyone in my life. Expanding my community enabled me
to shrink my world in a way that made me feel a larger part of it.
Did you know that you are only 4-5 contacts away from anyone? When you make new
connections with people you also create new connections with "their people,"
thereby having the world at your fingertips!
Get involved in an organization or cause. Find within them the people that
inspire and excite you. Appreciate each and every new connection made with the
people who come into your life and expand your network.
Coaching Inquiries: What would it mean to you to expand your community? How can
you get involved with your passions? How would expanding your network impact
those around you? What impact could you have on the lives of others?
